The Cencora Impact Foundation

The Cencora Impact Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit charitable giving organization, with a mission to improve the health and well-being of patient populations – both human and animal. Through partnerships, projects, and grants, we work together with nonprofit organizations to advance access to healthcare around the world.

The Foundation focuses its funding strategy on three pillars

Human health

Supporting access to healthcare for underserved populations around the globe

Animal health

Improving the health of service, companion, and production animals that support humans

More than $6.4 million donated by the Cencora Impact Foundation to nonprofit organizations in FY24

We do more than just give to organizations; we develop strong relationships and invest in our partnerships over the long term. We promote best practice sharing and building connections within our nonprofit community. This commitment is evident through regular collaboration calls, a grantee LinkedIn group, and our annual Foundation Nonprofit Partner Conference.

The Cencora Impact Foundation hosted its fifth annual Nonprofit Partner Conference at Cencora’s headquarters in FY24, gathering more than 40 nonprofit partners and leaders for a two-day symposium focused on enhancing collaboration to improve global health outcomes. Discussions included a keynote on health access in impoverished regions, a case study panel highlighting the importance of synthesizing partnerships, a workshop on fostering an inclusive culture, and a resilience planning session by Healthcare Ready, all aimed at strengthening our collective impact on communities around the world.

Partner spotlight

The Cencora Impact Foundation’s international nonprofit partner, DKMS, is dedicated to saving the lives of patients with blood cancer and other blood disorders. DKMS recruits potential bone marrow and blood stem cell donors to give patients a second chance at life. They provide access to transplantation to people in low- and middle-income countries and improve therapies through research. In FY23 and FY24, the Cencora Impact Foundation provided grant funding to DKMS to advance our joint mission of saving lives. Both grants supported lifesaving blood stem cell transplant access for patients in India. Funding from FY23 helped 10 children gain access to transplants, while increased funding for DKMS’s Access to Transplantation program in FY24 has the potential to facilitate this lifesaving treatment for 15 children.

Grant funding also supported donor registration in the United States, the UK, and Germany, where Cencora team members hosted in-person and virtual donor registration drives, contributing to the 12.5 million registered donors with DKMS worldwide. As of the end of FY24, more than 150 new registrants joined DKMS’s worldwide stem cell donor database and are prepared to selflessly save lives.

Responding to global humanitarian crises

The Cencora Impact Foundation supports charitable organizations year-round through a robust grantmaking process that includes proactive disaster response support to our strategic partners. In the aftermath of natural and human-caused crises, the Foundation aims to provide supplementary funds that enable communities to rebuild, enact preventative measures, and remain resilient. In FY24, the Cencora Impact Foundation donated more than $1 million in proactive and reactive disaster response grants to nonprofit partners. This included a 200 percent increase compared to FY23 in reactive donations related to water-related storms including hurricanes and floods.

Brazil

In the spring of 2024, after severe rains caused significant flooding in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, displacing more than 600,000 residents, the Cencora Impact Foundation donated to UNICEF to support recovery efforts including the provision of essential resources such as temporary shelter and hygiene kits.

Central Europe

In September 2024, when unprecedented levels of rainfall led to devastating flooding across Central Europe including Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania, the Cencora Impact Foundation funded Direct Relief’s medical aid and rebuilding efforts in the region, which provided essential medicines, medical equipment, and support for local healthcare providers.

Southeastern US

After Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage in the southeastern United States, the Cencora Impact Foundation and Cencora Team Assistance Fund implemented a comprehensive support strategy to aid those affected by this disaster, including $100,000 committed in FY24 by the Foundation to nonprofit partners’ response efforts. With additional grants and 2:1 donation match extending into the next fiscal year, the Foundation’s overall funding, together with our team members, was $170,000.

“The effects of this tragedy are far-reaching, and the significant impact that this donation will have cannot be overstated. In addition to food supply shortages and sanitation concerns, ensuring patient care is paramount. Rio Grande do Sul is a key region for clinical trials. Numerous patients rely on Cencora to provide access to medication and prevent treatment interruptions.”

Proactive support for pharmacies and vet clinics

Recognizing the critical role community pharmacies play during and after a crisis, the Cencora Impact Foundation helped establish the Disaster Relief Fund at the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Foundation, which can provide financial assistance for the repair of community pharmacies in the event of disaster, accidents, illness, or other adverse circumstances. Within animal health, the Cencora Impact Foundation supports the emergency grant program at Not One More Vet (NOMV) to help veterinary practices remain open or reopen in the wake of a natural disaster.

Continued aid for the people of Ukraine

Cencora remains committed to supporting the healthcare needs of those impacted by the crisis in Ukraine by engaging with our charitable partners around the world. From FY22-24, Cencora and the Cencora Impact Foundation have supported humanitarian efforts and provided aid to the people of Ukraine totaling more than $1.3 million. During this time period, the Cencora Impact Foundation partnered with Project HOPE, a global health and humanitarian relief nonprofit dedicated to empowering healthcare workers to deliver lifesaving solutions, particularly in times of crisis. This grant funded critical repairs addressing essential maintenance and accessibility issues at the Borodianka Psychoneurological Care Center in Ukraine, which supports more than 350 vulnerable residents with disabilities and mental health disorders who have complex needs.

Mental health and psychosocial support

The Cencora Impact Foundation is also partnered with Americares, a nonprofit organization that works to save lives and improve health for people affected by poverty or disaster globally. With grants in FY23 and FY24, along with funding already approved for FY25, the Foundation is currently supporting Americares to provide mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for people affected by the crisis in Ukraine. Funding is supporting Ukrainian non-governmental organizations with financial resources and mentorship; providing technical training for response partners; and supporting the development of e-learning MHPSS courses to train frontline workers serving displaced communities around the world.

Supporting families with children facing cancer

In FY24, Cencora team members spearheaded a campaign to raise funds for Tabletochki, a charitable organization that supports Ukrainian families affected by childhood cancer. Tabletochki provides targeted help to families, strengthens hospitals where pediatric cancer treatment is concentrated, invests in the professional development of medical personnel, and advocates for systemic changes in the healthcare system. With a 200 percent match by the Cencora Impact Foundation, together with our team members, this campaign raised more than $6,000 to support Tabletochki’s lifesaving efforts.
