The Cencora Impact Foundation
Formerly known as the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, the Cencora Impact Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit charitable giving organization, with a mission to improve the health and well-being of patient populations – both human and animal. Through partnerships, projects, and grants, we work together with nonprofit organizations to advance access to healthcare around the world.
The Foundation focuses its funding strategy on three pillars
Human health
Supporting access to healthcare for underserved populations around the globe
Animal health
Improving the health of service, companion, and production animals that support humans and advance disaster response efforts
Prescription drug safety
Combating prescription drug misuse through safe disposal, innovative solutions, and mental health support
Nearly $7 million donated by the Cencora Impact Foundation to nonprofit organizations in FY23
We do more than just give to organizations. We develop strong relationships and invest in our partnerships over the long term. We promote best practice sharing and building connections within our nonprofit community. This commitment is evident through regular collaboration calls, a grantee LinkedIn group, and our annual Foundation Nonprofit Partner Conference.
Our inclusive approach to grantmaking decisions
In FY23, the Cencora Impact Foundation convened the Employee Resource Group (ERG) Advisory Committee, a subcommittee of the Grantmaking Committee. This group made up of both ERG and global representatives brings together diverse perspectives from across the enterprise to advise the Foundation on funding that honors company celebrations like International Women’s Day, Pride Month, and Global Inclusion Day, as well as launching a large-scale engagement partnership that will support health around the world.
Responding to global humanitarian crises
The Cencora Impact Foundation supports charitable organizations year-round through a robust grantmaking process that includes proactive disaster response support to our strategic partners. In the aftermath of natural and human-caused crises that have disastrous effects on society’s ability to function, the Foundation aims to activate supplementary funds, which enable communities to rebuild, enact preventative measures, and remain resilient.
Following the devastation caused by the series of earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, the Cencora Impact Foundation came together with the company, the Cencora Team Assistance Fund, and team members worldwide to provide support. The Cencora Impact Foundation donated $250,000 of relief funds distributed to several nonprofit partners including Direct Relief, International Health Partners, and Humane Society International. Together, the Cencora Impact Foundation and Cencora team members provided an additional $33,000+ in donations and matches to other nonprofit organizations delivering aid.

Partner spotlight
Cencora Impact Foundation's nonprofit partner, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF), recruits, rescues, and trains dogs, then partners them with first responders to form canine search teams tasked with finding people in the wreckage of disasters. Throughout FY23, SDF canine task forces responded to disasters across the U.S. – including the wildfires in Maui, Hawai'i – and around the world. Seven SDF-trained teams were deployed to support search and rescue efforts in response to the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.
In addition to our annual grant support for SDF’s Veterinary Care for Canine Heroes program, the Cencora Impact Foundation partnered with MWI Animal Health to support the development of first-aid kits to address both minor and serious injuries in the field. In conjunction with more than $10,000 worth of donated products from our animal health business, the Cencora Impact Foundation funded the development of the kits provided to SDF’s 110 canine-handler teams. While extremely rare, search dogs can sometimes sustain injuries related to training, as was the case with search dog Victor:
“We had an unfortunate incident when Victor came off the rubble pile and got his leg stuck, resulting in an open, compound fracture. Once we freed his leg, I was able to grab my first aid kit, and it provided everything we needed to stop the bleeding, stabilize, and wrap Victor’s leg. Very thankful to the Cencora Impact Foundation and MWI Animal Health to have had the necessary equipment in a time of need.”
